Sounds on Sunday 19

Short but sweet this week with just eight tracks, on account of me running out of time, so much music!! Will do better next time, and thanks to everyone for contributing. Do let me know what you think in the comments below, I think it’s a really good week.

JAKL – Shadows: “London based artist JAKL first stepped into the limelight in 2015 as one of Glastonbury’s brightest emerging talents. Immediately securing national radio support from BBC R1’s Huw Stephens who asked him into a session, XFM, BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music soon followed suit, enthralled by a vocal range both fragile and ethereal, with a stripped-back, graceful sound that only served to heighten it. JAKL’s new release ‘Shadows’ (is) a teaser for a slew of new material this year, including work with David Kosten (Bat for Lashes, Everything Everything) … JAKL states : “When you can’t see the light, the shadows are our only comfort. Everything that has gone wrong, everything that can no longer happen is hidden in the darkness.”

Here are some more new sounds to brighten your Sunday, nine tracks on Soundcloud and three on Youtube.

Someone has asked why these posts are not being picked up on Hype Machine, like the Monday “Earworms” posts. The answer is, I don’t know, but I’ve emailed Hype Machine to see if they will link the “Sounds on Sunday” posts as well. So we will have to wait and see.

On the Admin side, does anyone in ‘Spill land know who is in charge of the Twitter feed for The ‘Spill? It’s very out-of-date, and I have a volunteer to look after it … which would be good.

Anyway, have a listen and let me know what you think, in the comments below. Thanks to all.

Red Giant – Universal Daughter: ”I’m contacting you on behalf of Foon Promotions, an NJ based music sharing platform that connects new audiences to new music. As a fan of the music you share on The Spill, I think you’ll dig trip-hop duo Red Giant’s newest track, “Universal Daughter”. This is a new single off of their upcoming EP, to be released this Spring.”

More diverse new sounds to wake up your Sunday – thanks to all contributors. Have a listen and let me know what you think, in the comments below – please also mention any new music you’d like to share. Details as follows:

Delafaye – Rain: Another from Delafaye, “The moniker of Andrew Shockley, Delafaye, recorded and produced ‘’Rain” by himself at home on a 32-track recorder and computer in a small apartment over an art studio next to a bar called the hilltop tavern in Louisville, Kentucky, which is where he is from. It’s the final single to be taken from new forthcoming debut EP ‘The Hilltop’, which (will be) released on new London based label Street Mission Records (distributed through [PIAS]) on January 27th 2017.”

Brentron – Heat Soaked: “I’m a 24 y/o producer/singer/songwriter from Toronto. Although people have tried to put my music in a genre, most can’t because it really is something different, although for ease it can be called “Heavy Electronic Pop”. I played all kinds of instrument growing up and in different bands, although once I started producing electronic music at 20, I pretty much dropped everything else (including dropping out of University because of my obsession with music). I’ve been doing a lot of live shows in the underground Toronto music scene over the past year. I try to do 2 a month (which is pretty much just me plugging in my laptop to an AUX cable into a P.A. system and singing live over the top because I’m not much of a DJ).” https://soundcloud.com/brentron-music/heat-soaked-alternate-chorus-version

Andy Leung – Lights – “Andy Leung is an artist, music producer and contemporary composer. He was the youngest composer commissioned for the London Olympics 2012 and Cultural Olympiad, and featured on BBC Television and Radio. He has since performed in Europe’s best live venues and festivals, including Jazz Café, Koko, Bestival, Outlook and Southbank. The work re-imagined the erhu (traditional Chinese violin) for the 21st century and was a ground-breaking work that marked a new era for the erhu. This is the second song to Leung’s lifetime project, in which he will release a free new single on the last Friday of every month for the rest of his career.  To get priority access to the project, sign up here: andyleungmusic.com.”
