Dover – Sister

Good to have a slow topic from time to time. Been filling up i-tunes with cds from my collection and had forgotten how much I loved this album when I bought it. 16 songs. Not one over 3 minutes long. Guitars, simple bass lines and a ballsy female vocalists, who are sisters hence the name of the album. The name of the group comes from the brand of jeans their mum used to sell in her shop. Spanish group from Majadahonda (a town just up the road from Maki Towers) – they sing in English so shouldn’t be too hard to relate to. Here from 1995 are half a dozen tracks from their début album.

  1. 1995, you say? Yeah that would make sense. Maybe a little too generic for them to have made it big, but thoroughly enjoyable. Cheers, Maki.

  2. There’s a part of me that has always wanted a band that sounds like an experiment to crossbreed Belly, The Shop Assistants, The Primitives and L7. I really like this. Think it’s the fourth time I’ve played it.

      • Hi Maki, thank you very much for the offer but I don’t box. But I’ve just discovered an 87 song long playlist on youtube so I’ll be playing through that for a while. I’m in a pretty retro mood, so that will be fine. I’ve also just subscribed to http://www.rdio.com which I guess might have them as they seem massively popular judging by some of the youtube views (about a 1,000,000 more than the normal 237 my fave bands get).

  3. Thanks for the comments everyone. It’s good to rediscover stuff you had almost forgotten about and then find that others like it too. May be a few of these coming up. I’ve got a massive pile of cd’s waiting to go into i-tunes!
