Holy Cow! New My Bloody Valentine!

I woke up this morning to new My Bloody Valentine music, 22 years after they last released something. Thoughts?

    • Maybe once they’ve sorted their website out you can download it Carole, thought I think the vinyl may not be ready by March.

      • Yes, I’ve looked at the website. Unfortunately, I don’t buy downloads, it is a personal thing with me, but I will order the CD as soon as the website is working properly.

      • I don’t think I’ve ever bought an mp3, apart from one time when I pressed the wrong button for a Ringo Deathstarr EP. Man, I was annoyed with myself. What I like is when the vinyl comes with a cd copy, which you can rip to make mp3s or play in the car (I don’t have a record player in my car, you see?).

  1. I read about it on the Guardian a little while ago. . . .I like the track and will look forward to listening to the album ! ! !

    • Two albums of MBV covers have just been released in Japan “Yellow loveless” and “Loveless-Tribute”.
Artists include Shonen Knife and Tokyo Shoegazer

  2. I think the Graun has a YouTube link to the whole album, Carole.

MBV were never really my thing, I’m afraid. I always liked the poppier side of indie. Managed about a minute of this song. Struck me as pretty similar to how I remember them sounding – but with more out-of-tune guitars.

  3. Liking it a lot on first listen… plenty of lovely melodies and the rhythms are generally harder edged than on Loveless.
The recent Japanese band tribute to Loveless is worth checking out too, though it’s pretty “straight”, there are a couple of more interesting interpretations.

    Yellow loveless

  4. The first track sounded a little too much like something that didn’t quite make it onto Loveless but I’ve just been blown away by Who Sees You: a gorgeously fluid, grit-filled soul-cleanser. Haven’t got to Wonder 2 yet….

    What an unexpected treat!

    • After only one listening, admittedly, Who Sees You was the highlight. It got a bit too featureless towards the end. I will have another go.

    • A second listening, on headphones, reveals much more. Including the full wonder of Wonder 2. Nothing Is still sounds rather featureless but it looks like they’ll get my cash anyway.
If there’s a CD-quality download, do I really need the CD? (I’m not going to faff about with my record player.)

  5. Made me feel a bit sick, like I’d gone too fast on a roundabout, which is kind of what MBV always try to achieve isn’t it? Quite like it, will ponder for a while (bearing in mind that I was deeply disappointed by Loveless and still don’t like it as much as Isn’t Anything or Ecstacy and Wine).

  6. Believe it or not – totally not my thing!

Gave it 3 goes, still never made it more than halfway through.

    What’s wrong with me?

  7. Listening now on the Graun website. Quite a smart move, to wait 22 years for the music you make to come back into fashion…

Peerless though. I’m usually happy having music on quietly when I’m working, but this is just demanding to be played as loud as possible.
