Scots indie goes…..POP!

Chvrches

As we’ve not had a post for today, I thought I’d sneak one in before bedtime. “The Mother We Share” by Chvrches has snuck up on me, catching it on the radio, then finding out that there’s some ‘Spill Scots indie faves in the band, specifically one former Twilight Sad member, and one from DsD’s besties list, the mighty Aereogramme. There may well be a glut of bad 80s influenced electropop kicking about at the moment, but this is simply a fab song, with a wee hint of the old Scots melancholic beauty to boot.

  1. Ah yes, came across this in The Line of Best Fit’s* best tracks of last year. Like a lot – even if that ‘v’ irritates me a bit (presumably we’re meant to pronounce it ‘churches’?).

*Current favourite music blog/site thing (other than the ‘Spill obvs)

  2. The v is a bugger to type because the finger’s on the u before you realise. I believe they are pronounced Churches.

Next up: How do we pronounce Wooden Shjips?

    • It’s pronounced ‘potato chips’. It really, honestly is. If you go into a record shop and ask for a band by that name, people will not look at you as if you are silly. Honest.

Really like the Chvrches song – reminded me of Flume & Anthony for Cleopatra ‘Sleepless’ – really sweet and ambient.

  3. the Sad tweet about chvrches a fair bit. probably some mutual support going on there. i like their track Lies. this one’s a bit poppier.

  4. like that a lot!

Thought they might be a Black Metal band for a moment, the ‘u’ as a ‘v’ is a real black metal thing, as in ‘Trve Norwegian Black Metal’, I think it’s supposed to look like ye olde style writing or runes or something like that, and churches are pretty metal too!
