Earlier today, at a hastily assembled United Nations summit, Blimpy’s nether regions announced their favourite albums of the year. Which are as follows:
1. “Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose” Beth Jeans Houghton & the Hooves Of Destiny
2. “Secret Soundz Vol.2″ The Pictish Trail
3. “Lonerism” Tame Impala
4. “Tramp” Sharon Von Etten
5. “Pop EP” Carousels
In summary; a good year overall for skewed psychedelic wonk-pop, noise, & yearning. Cheers!
Great pic. Slight look of Elvis Costello there…
A younger, more handsome version, natch.
I did get “Elvis Costello” heckled as I exited a corner shop recently.
Not always too keen on noise, but skewed psychedelic wonk-pop is definitely getting a listen! And I yearn for yearning…
I ran out of money – so still don’t have “Secret Soundz Vol.2″ – must sort that out soon.
Beth Jeans Houghton is in my top albums of the year too – had to look it up thinking it was the previous year though.
lovely choices, Mr. Blimpy.
Luckily I got SSv2 for xmas, though it was hard having to wait to listen to it. And because the vinyl comes as a double with SSv1 & cds, I now have 3 copies of SSv1!!
great stuff – had been waiting for this.
Liked the Pictish Trail a lot and I really must get around to listening properly to Tame Impala….I always read it as ‘ta-me’ (rather than ‘taym’) probably because I’m used to the Japanese sound system, and I just can’t dislodge it from my brain…!
Don;t worry, all the cool kids pronounce it Ta-me Imp-lala, y’know, for hipster points. See also: Sudge-Fan Stef-aaans.
Liked Pictish Trail and Carousels enormously, Blimpy, and of course Tame Impala is on my own list. Beth Jeans Houghton and Sharon Van Etting have beautiful voices.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for listening guys, glad you liked it
Finally got round to this. Great stuff as expected.
Tame Impala is the only one of these albums I’ve heard (I like, but not as blown away as some people seem to be). Don’t know why I missed the Sharon Von Etten, as it’s right up my street and everyone seems to be raving about it. Beth Jeans is intriguing, as are the others come to that. Thanks for sharing. Hoping to do my own top 10, if work quietens down a bit.
