Christmas is Coming…

Okay, you’re all going to be really sick of me by the end of this week, since not only am I this week’s Temporary Guru but I’m also doing the ‘Spill game tomorrow, but I can’t not post this: advance listen of the Christmas single from Cornershop (due out on 3rd December), featuring Angharad van Rijswijk from Trwbador – originally the vocals were going to be done by Sinead O’Connor, but when she dropped out at the last minute, Hari stepped into the breach (returning the favour, I guess, from the fact that Cornershop appear on one of the best songs from Trwbador’s forthcoming album, due in February). I’m not really a Christmas song person meself, but I have to support this, not least because of the absence of sleighbells.

  1. Bar the inevitable “imagine how amazing this would have sounded from Sinead!”-type comments from the likes of me, this is rather lovely. And actually I think her voice is more suited to the perky warmth of the song than Sinead’s would have been.

On the topic of Sinead, I’m very excited to have snaffled two of (allegedly) only 50 tickets to see her in St Pancras Old Church next Thursday eve – woohoo!

  2. I’m stubbornly resisting considerable pressure within my household to start getting excited about Christmas. That aside, I liked the feel of this a lot. Remind me to listen again in 6 weeks…

  3. Hi Aba ! ! !

I really liked the track ! ! ! I really liked the brass band in the arrangement ( can I hear a little of Dvorak’s New World Symphony ? ) and the words are really nice ! ! !

    Some sleigh bells would not have been so bad . . . . . . .I like sleigh bells ! ! !

  4. Sorry, Aba, late to the fray.

Loved it. Greater than the sum of its not inconsiderable parts.
Please pass on my appreciation to Angharad. And if it is adopted as the rival to 2012 X-Factor latest-off-the-production-line-of-suckers-wanting-to-be-Cowell’s-pocket-filler for the Christmas No.1 spot, I’ll be in the queue at a chart-contributing shop, shanghai-ing anyone with cash in their pocket!
