Dear Friends,
Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey.
Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration… he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage…
We appreciate all the love and support and concern.
From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy
Thanks, Tinny
Yeah, not a great day huh
This is truly very sad news indeed.
I will certainly pray for Levon san and his family that he he can leave this world peacefully and find happiness in the next.
He leaves us with such wonderful music.
I know he did not like the Last Waltz so I will not link to that – but this is a great version of the The Weight . . .
My fave Levon song: You could hear and see the glint of humour in his eye
That is sad; I didn’t realise. I always associate him with this:
Sad news. I really loved Levon’s later solo stuff. Here he’s covering Buddy Miller’s Wide River to Cross on Dirt Farmer.
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there … terribly sad. The years after the break up of the Band must have been hard for him, but recent times have been kinder to him, and he will leave a huge legacy. I never have been a religious man, but right now I almost want to believe in the life hereafter ….
Levon Helm wanted to be musician when he heard Bill Monroe and The Bluegrass Boys when he was six years old (Flatt and Scruggs would have been in the band then).
May you be filled with compassion
May your pain and suffering be eased
May you be at peace
A wonderful musician and a fantastically expressive singer.
One of the greats.
May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
And here’s the Band’s version of that (without Bob):
Well said
One of my all-time favourites. Very sad.
