I’ve been reminded of my promise last year to try to sort out a West Country social; it all got overtaken a bit by events then, but this year looks more promising. We will be very happy to host, if people don’t mind trailing over to Castle Cary (we do have a railway station!), in which case a lunchtime event seems the best bet. The alternative would be to meet somewhere a bit more central like Bristol, in which case someone else will need to identify a suitable venue…
The most important thing, however, is to try to agree on a date. I’ll be busy in June and away for most of August, but much of July or September would be possible; so far two people have voted for September, but they’re the only two people to have expressed an opinion… If you would like to attend such an event, could you indicate your availability below? And if you’d prefer to meet in Bristol rather than the depths of Somerset, could you say that in the comments?
Slightly confusing instructions – vote just the once but also vote for any days you could go. I’ve picked the second option and listed all the dates I could go. I’d prefer Castle Cary to Bristol so long as a) there’d be a suitable train home or b} somewhere to sleep. Can bring tent!
Sorry, yes, instructions could be clearer – and will be modified shortly.
There are trains back to London in the early evening, which is why I thought a lunchtime event made most sense.
I’ve voted for all possible dates too, I would prefer Castle Cary, more of an adventure for me
I can’t do any of the July dates – I’m on Olympics work for the first four, and almost certain domestic duty on the last two (that’s the weekend the kids break up from school).
Sept 1st/2nd is DsSis’ birthday weekend, so that’s a no-no too.
But please don’t let my unavailablity influence preferences; all I ask is you keep me informed, please.
No idea really but have gone for Sept after school hols and Saturday as it’s easier for travel. But don’t rely on me ‘cos I don’t know what I’m doing. At all.
Ali, as ever, if I get to go, I’ll drive, so you won’t need to worry about transport. But we’d need to find some cheap hotel rooms for the West Yorkshire contingent, as I won’t be prepared to make it a day trip!
I’d rather stay overnight as well
mid to late Sept. Overnight.
As things are at the moment, I could do most of those dates. As far as the venue goes, Castle Cary and Bristol are roughly equidistant for me. Neither are close enough for me to contemplate anything other than a lunchtime event.
September for me, I am on holiday in July, well, I am for the first part anyway.
If it is in Castle Cary, I’ll drive and drink soft drinks.
If it’s in Bristol, I can get bladdered (joke!).
Either is good for me.
