Talking of photographs – were we? – this is my mother and her brothers on the beach, somewhere in Kent, in 1923.

Great photo tfd – your mum looks particularly defiant!
She had to be defiant with two older brothers!
such an excellent picture – can’t help with the location – there aren’t many clues.
(I had to borrow my sons spade for a bit of digging today, it’s just like the boys ones – it’s not quite as old as the those in the picture but it is from the 50′s – so not doing bad)
This photo is so amazing, in so many ways I cannot even begin to describe. Love it.
I think that’s a great photo. I have one of me and my brothers who look to be similar in age relationship – shall have to try and scan it in. It graces my mantlepiece. Tho’ I’m still in a pram!
Ooh. That’s so great. I have one of my grandparents on the beach in Folkstone in 1921, as adults. The men wearing suits (trouser legs rolled up), ties and with their shoes laced up and slung over their shoulders and the women wearing skirts and sailor blouses. That, I assume, was the sum of casual wear back then!
I specially like how you can see where the suntan stops just below the boys’ knees. That’s my uncle Bob on the left and Arthur on the right.
