I have absolutely nothing to say except that it’s sad when great musicians leave us. I’d love to wax lyrical about Etta but I really think that all we should do to note her passing is listen to and enjoy her music. Here, then, are half a dozen tracks from a live album I love. Enjoy and remember.
Thanks Etta.
I listened while I was getting ready for work just now. She really had a fantastic voice although did not really know her music so well.
It is sad that she is no longer in this world with us, but she has left some wonderful music for us.
Hi Sakura
Not so strange you do not know Etta’s music very much. She was born in 1938 and you are still very young. Her life has been a constant survival because of her adiction to drugs, alcohol etc. Although this never affected to her splendid voice so much – she started singing gospel at 5 years old at the church of her neighbourhood in Los Angeles- like many others -
I only can tell you that Beyonce has taken for her repertoire many of Etta’s songs, including the “Sunday kind of Love” that she sung at the President Obama celebration when he was named president and that he danced it with his wife Michele. The photographs were published worldwide.
lots of love
Superb voice. Thanks Maki.
Thanks Maki. What a great talent she was.
Thanks, Maki. Unfortunately i couldn’t stop bawling through the whole wonderful playlist. Some talents are just so rare. What a massive loss. RIP Etta.
Wonderful stuff. “Trust In Me” was used as fade-out music on the last episode of the most recent series of “Madmen” and it really fitted.
I also like her earlier stuff like “Good Rockin’ Daddy” from 1955
