Mini Social: TreeFrogDemon and SpottedRichard (But No Ghost of Inspector Morse)

Apologies For Absence: The Rest Of You

We hung out at two wonderful pubs by Port Meadow. It was a misty and coolish day, with little bursts of sunshine here and there. The tang of woodsmoke and damp leaves in the air, and moss on thatched cottage roofs. A perfect late autumn day, in fact for a bit of a stroll to walk off the ale and Welsh Rarebit we had for lunch. The cheese did not, however, induce ghostly apparitions, unfortunately, so we never saw an irritable Inspector Morse shouting “Get Me Evidence, Lewis!”

We didn’t talk about you all (much) except to sing your praises and say what a wonderful, quirky and crazy bunch you are, united by our mutual love of music.

Sadly, we had to postpone the CD exchange for another day, but we had fun getting to know each other.

Cheers, TFD! Love the Mudcrutch t-shirt!

(Not sure why my bra looks like it’s fallen off in this picture. Hmmm!)

  1. Thanks, SpottedRichard – a great time was had. (Good choice of tune too.)

I shall shortly be reunited with my iTunes, but won’t have internet access for another week. The opposite of now, in fact. However, I’ll make my Wolvercote Social CD and send it out the snail way.

    • We’ll delay the CD thing until you are settled into your new home. Cats, unpacking and furniture arranging first. I insist. Then housewarming party. Then CD. :-)

  2. Just tried to comment and somehow replied to Blimpy. How odd. Anyone, lovely to see you both. I do like putting a face to a monicker (although of course I have met tfd, so am familiar with her lovely face!).

  3. Well the invites must have been issued on a need to know basis, ‘cos I was barely two miles from Wolvercote on Friday. My (still quite) new job sees me working slightly north of Summertown 3 days a week, Friday being one of them.
As for Bra Wars; from the photo you’ve just mis-buttoned your cardie, by the look of it . . . happens to me all the time, and I’ve got more to lose. If you’re in Oxford a while longer tfd I’m there Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and stay down near Princes Risborough. Such a pity we won’t be seeing Jackie at The Stables now but keep me posted if anything interesting comes up.

Here’s my current favourite Oxford band, Drift which features Bobby Watson from Comus

    Compass – Drift

They’ve been running a bijou festival just north of Oxford for the last couple of years so see you there if not before.

    • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I can’t believe you were so close and didn’t get the memo. Damn. I will certainly let you know when I am next in the area, as I visit my cousin in Wolvercote often. What a darn tootin’ shame (sorry. I watched Fargo this week) – we’d have loved to have had you there. Snarl, sharl.

    • Oh, poo, TY – I did put an announcement on RR but you obviously missed it. What’s more, I’ve been staying with my Oxford daughter Ab in Summertown for 10 days, but today is the last day; I’ll be camping in my new house tonight pending the arrival of my belongings tomorrow morning…

  4. I’m working on it Blimpy, I’m working on it!

Lovely to see another ‘Spill face, SR.

Still waiting for notification of another full Social, people . . . I’ll organise again, if you want, but that would of course mean it’s another Northern one.

    • & this is a great case in point May. You’d expect someone with a scrren name like SpottedRichard to be …. but, well, obviously, you’re not actually spotted, are you?

If people are going to start lying on the internet, I see no future for it.

      • Actually that’s not the real me, either. It’s just a one of those bar-fly types you find in these establishments on any given lunchtime who’s bra has come adrift after too many Campari and Soda’s! :-)
