Grauniad continues to get TP’s age wrong shock

Sigh. Last year when the Graun said it was TP’s 57th birthday I wrote and pointed out it was actually his 60th. Did they take any notice? Nuh uh. I shall have to write to them again. Happy 61st, TP.

Here’s one of your favourite bands playing one of your favourite songs. Present from me.

I’m A Man by the Yardbirds in 1967, with Jimmy Page playing the guitar with a bow – I was hoping Mike Campbell would be using his e-bow in the TP&TH version but unfortunately he doesn’t.

I’m A Man by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 2006. Bo Diddley wrote the song in 1955.

  1. Hi, tfd.

Oo-ey, but that Yardbirds one is a curio. Will listen again to both later, but in the meantime, any excuse to post another of my favourites … have you heard this glam/sludgerock version, by French electro artists Black Strobe?

I bloomin’ love it. Listen in particular to the way the main riff splurges in at 0m50s, and the archetypal alluring French accent at 2m20s singing “ … they can’t resist…

      • He’s not doing his feet any favours in those shoes, you know…Yes, excellent, DsD – and I love the video too. Maybe we’d better have the M.A.N. himself while we’re at it, because Diddley is daddy.

  2. The Graun is not the only one – i’ve seen his birthday posted as in February more than a few times. I remember this as i tend to keep in my head a little collection of Libra rockers and was never sure if Tom was in the club or not.

  3. Happy Birthday TP. Back when $2.79 was tough to scratch together I parted with the sum for the Yardbird’s Greatest Hits & played this track to death. Happy to say I’ve been lucky enough to see both TP & Bo do it live. Yardbirds never came near Reno unfortunately.

  4. Yay! I’m younger than TP. I confess to never having researched it but i would have said he was younger than me.

    I feel so much better.

  5. Do you get Sky Arts 1 TFD? There are two live Tom Petty things on over the weekend, live in France and somewhere else, I expect you’ve seen them already, but thought of you when I saw them. Happy birthday to Mr P from me too.
