What a music-filled weekend it’s been so far! And what a shame someone can’t have a special anniversary every weekend. You know – songs about wood, songs about paper…what do you mean that’s not special?
I’d have had my 41st this year, as it goes, had I taken the precaution of remaining married. But I reckon it was worth it doing it my way. Here are some songs.
1 Poppy-Red by Richard Thompson
2 Roxanne by the Police
3 Mystery Man by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4 Scarlet Town by Gillian Welch
5 Red Apple Juice by the GPs
6 Red Wine and Promises by Lal & Mike Waterson
7 Blood Red Roses by Sting
8 Blood of the Ram by the Gourds
Errr … happy un-anniversary! I’ve had a couple of those, too.
I hope Roxanne makes the A-list because the Police are still unzedded, and that song deserves to make a list. But it’s one song that i couldn’t stand when it first came out, and it’s still maybe my least favorite Police song. Go figure.
I agree with you TFD someone should have a special anniversary every week!!! Actually one of my favourite groups girl vocal groups is Melon Kinenbi and this means Melon Anniversary which is an anniversary that they made up, so someone could have a Melon anniversary every week!!!
I really like Poppy-Red by Richard Thompson!!! I have the album (including the Japanese bonus tracks – you have them now also) and this one of my favourites!!!
No, I haven’t forgotten that you sent me those tracks – thanks again! – and did you notice that one of the songs on my list (Red Wine And Promises) is the original version, though with a slightly different title, of one of them?
There are plenty of gaps on this list where melons could fit –

Hi TFD!!!
No!!! I did not say that so you thank me again!!! I am happy to find it for
us !!!
I just listened to the Richard Thompson version again. I think I like it more than the Lal & Mike Waterson version, but maybe it is because it is more accessible to me. I will listen to the other more carefully now!!!
Just listening to this now, it’s top quality. No problems with Mr Sting on those tunes for me !
No, I really like them – didn’t just grit my teeth and nom ‘em for the redness, honest.
