Good, a playlist about TV. More up my alley and would probably have been a better theme. First song in my head is Fade Away and Radiate. Will have a listen over the weekend as i imagine i won’t be doing much listening on the mothership this week.
Hey Amylee, don’t have a problem with the official theme, these nostalgia trips are often fun in & of themselves. Toyed with the idea of a theme quiz, but got sidetracked by these instead.
I don’t have a problem with it as a theme, as some are more to each person’s taste than others are. Just a personal non-favorite, along with Children’s Songs and Foreign Language Versions. Others love this one. I’m one of the very few oddballs who loved the Fetishes topic.
Too funny, Weevie Stonder’s Gagged & Bound just came up on tune shuffle & had my own d’oh! moment for missing that one on Fetish week. What a saddo.
I would add:
(I’m A) TV Savage - Bow Wow Wow
86 TV’s – I Am Kloot
TV = The Devil – Gisli
TV Guide - Summer Cats
(Christmas TV - Slow Club .. but not in August)
we did this theme in 2009 – (so, in the style of the Rock and Roll years – i’m trying to remember….)
DarceysDad had just got home from visiting you(!) in Florida.
Low were seen in concert.
you were late to the nominations. (did you have a job!!!)
Paul was Guru.(?)
I would have nominated the above except Summer Cats…as it’s 2010.
if this was the theme today I would have been fighting you for Fol Chen (cos I love ‘em)
loadsa fun.
Can’t recall that week at all – it must have been good!
There must have been ‘Spill lists? Going to have to check the archives, now.
Seem to have a bug on the mobile view – once a you-tube gets posted, you can’t see the rest of the comments. What’s the number for tech support?
turn it off – turn it on again.
(sorry – not only has tech support left the office – he’s also walked out on the company… fend for yourselves)
theme was March 6th 09.. I nominated:
Man on the Box - Trost
(wont link – look it up)
how excellent is that tune? – don’t remember it at all – but it’s brilliant.
Found ‘em. Feb ’09. We had playlists from you, me, Steen, Nilpferd & a vid from Gremlin. Amazingly, no repeats this time round, although most of the tunes are long gone. Feel a little sad now. Where have all the playlists gone? When did we go all Facebook?
think the ‘spill has expanded to other mixtapes… not facebook – that’s just a rant site (and meet up organiser)
not RR – because RR for me is so frustrating it causes me pain…
steen has weened herself off caring as much.
and nilpferd spends all his time listening to our lists on a Sunday morning (and being too darned nice) to make a playlist.
gremlin has – I don’t know – he said hello the other month on here?
I miss EJD’s – they took me into zones I don’t usually walk down.
if that makes you a little sad – don’t read the TV blog – just cmd F a few names and the interesting tunes abound.
(again – I don’t mind this theme – just bored after 2hrs last night… and it will make a difficult playlist to set)
I’m off to find some more Trost, hopefully.
Not meaning to diss the ‘Spill. There’s still plenty of fun & music. Many of you have young families & busy lives, so it’s amazing folks find the time & it’s stayed together as long as it has.
Do miss absent friends & listening to themed playlists over the weekend. Hearing a Shane/Ejay/Steen/Nilp/TFD/Etc/Etc personal perspective on the given subject was a big part of the fun of RR for me. The way the old jukebox would stream all the playlists on the page was cool too.
Oh well.
I know what you mean – I’m finding it a struggle (Pip’s 10 months old now and a moving, grooving brilliant terror – as my record collection is finding to it’s horror!)
Yeah the floating themed ‘spill radio session was always a highlight – whenever you were at the computer you could listen in – we never did find a solution to that did we?…. sometimes a playlist gets lost in a wave of posts… don’t mind just a couple of people listening in, but it feels segregated this way…. lacking the personal perspective is a major miss for me too.
Hello, boys!
I stopped making playlists because it took a lot of time, and it seemed like fewer and fewer people listened. Maybe because the ‘spill took on so many other regular features that required listening attention? And I seemed to run out of time to listen to other people’s lists, so I felt guilty expecting anybody to listen to mine. And I felt like I was having trouble coming up with tunes to fit the topics, let alone any that would make an interesting playlist.
I’ll have more time in September.
I’m glad you two still make playlists, though, even if I don’t always have time to listen/comment. As I said…more time in September.
I get quite nostalgic going back to read old RR/’Spill subjects. Silly.
I basically just ran out of tunes… I only have about 4000 and I’ve mentioned most of them already… I don’t like to repeat myself. (Have I mentioned this before?) It’s not facebook which has killed my ‘Spill time, but the extra 2 hrs a day I spend talking to the trees, birds, and my dog…
still enjoy the odd live blog attempt on a Sunday morning on the few occasions I can chase my girls out of the house and have the place to myself… so don’t stop the playlists coming…
Coo ! Radiators from Space, that’s a blast from the past.
Ok. Took most of the day to listen to the list, in between multiple power blackouts and friends bearing gifts of wine. I like your ratings system and the way you think so i’ll poach it.
Marry -
Radiators (From Space) (dond of the set)
Crisis
Invaders of the Heart
Friends with Benefits -
Butthole Surfers, Linval Thompson, Cinematic Orchestra,
Shag –
Tarwater, Fol Chen, Eddie Current Supression Ring, DM Stith, Peggy Sue & Pitrates
Kil l- (A bit harsh, so we’ll call it grenade. Nothing was all that bad.)
All the rest.
Thanks much!
Good list. Favourite tracks were Radiators (From Space) and Invaders Of The Heart. There were a couple I didn’t like much, but I enjoyed the rest.
Big thumbs up for On TV by Crisis from me. What a great band they were.
Fellas, thanks for trainspotting your faves.
Ladies, thanks for listening. Did get a bit long this week. Will try to sharpen my editing skills for next time.
