One of my old Myspace “friends” along with being the owner of the world’s best crochet museum and maker of music also makes art from trash which I find quite lovely.
Interesting – like tribal masks! I admire artists who turn flotsam and jetsam into art. I first came across it with the artist Ursula Stalder. She’s Swiss, so beachcombing requires her to travel, and my area is one of her favourite haunts. She sorts her finds and often makes her intricate work from homogenous collections – all dolls parts, or all clay pipes. Here’s an example.
Similar work is done by Brighton artist Steve McPherson , while Eastbourne artist Patricia Latham has a different style, incorporating beach finds into mixed media works.
Very resourceful!
