Billions of blistering blue barnacles!

Having read every Tintin book a million times as a boy, I do have an interest in the boy reporter – but I really don’t know what to make of this! Have a look at the full trailer for the new 3D animated film and let me know what you think!

I still think it’s going steer into the uncanny valley (like the unwatchable “Polar Express”)…

  1. I think I’d have preferred them just to do it as a proper cartoon. Tintin’s face has no character – or semblance of expression – whatsoever. I’m afraid it’s a no from me…

  2. Well, I don’t know – I hated it to start with but at the end of the 2.24 I believe I was starting to warm to it.

  3. OK, I’ve watched it again. tfd is right – it gets better as it progresses. But the human images don’t have any life behind the eyes. The cat that gets tripped over has more personality than any of them. And no offence to Andy Serkis, but couldn’t they have got a proper Scot to voice Haddock? I kept thinking of Sean Connery in the Indiana Jones films. He’s rubbish at accents but he could have managed this one… Still think they should have done a cartoon. Or a proper live-action film a la LOTR.

  4. Never liked him, so Spielberg can do what he wants. Just don’t let him mess with Asterix.

Do have a friend who looks like Capt. Haddock.

  5. I read every Tintin five thousand times as a child! I have a friend who looks like Captain Haddock!

I saw a preview for this in the movie theater. It looks too much too much. It’ll probably be fun to watch, but they get Tintin all wrong. I love the matte-ness of Tintin, and the stock colors, and the understated simplicity that makes up such a rich, complete world. Fuck Spielberg! Don’t mess with my Tintin, you cretin!!

  6. Hmm, it’s the noses that are a problem. There’s a kind of Pinocchio vibe which detracts from everything else, and Snowy is weird. That said, it’s probably quite fun if you’ve never come across Tintin before (I’m thinking of my 8-year-old son).

I’ve just dug out “Asterix chez les Helvetes” and I’m going to go and ead it in bed …
