Not much has surfaced from Withered Hand since he won my heart with his best-record-of-2009 album “Good News” – I mean I’ve seen him play loads and randomly walked past him & King Creosote in a wee fishing village in Fife of a day a few weeks ago. I’ve only heard him play one new song live, “Heart, Heart” and now a new one has come up on a radio session called “I Still Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye”. I know there’s at least two ‘Spillers who will love to hear these. So here are the songs.
Dan, please get the new record finished! We’re strung out here! X x.

Yay! After one (drunken) listen, not sure about “Heart, Heart” but “I just don’t know…” is gorgeous.
Speaking of walking past celebrities, I’ve just been stood in a bar next to Russell Tovey and Aidan Turner out of from “Being Human”. I was a little starstruck (but pretended not to notice them). I think that is the done thing.
Can’t wait. In the meantime, loving the new KC/Jon Hopkins album.
I see Withered Hand is on at the Queens Hall in August, and there are lots of other shows by people ‘Spillers like – Burns Unit, Warpaint, Bert Jansch, Dick Gaughan, Battlefield Band, Eliza Carthy –

Maybe an Edinburgh Social?
tfd – I’d really like a Burns Unit, Warpaint,Withered Hand 3 day stay for an Edinburgh Social – but organising that while the festival is on would be a nightmare (we are already trying to organise next Augusts Scotland trip – being a freewheeling hippy – I totally dislike the fact that we have to abide by the structure of school times – grrrrr)
back later with a proper listen to WH
Oh well, that’s true, Shane – we’d pretty much all have to sleep on mmoloney’s floor, wouldn’t we?
The Queen’s Hall is a fab place to see bands too…
Yes – I’ve seen RT there several times. And Mary Gauthier.
Jackie Leven at Cabaret Voltaire on the 11th too
eavesdropping on ‘Listening to Crows Pray’? that would be fun too!
heheh, I haven’t come up with a nom over there yet Shane but that one did cross my mind
Aidan Turner, Bishbosh? Oh my … Oh my … (purely motherly interest of course) – be still my beating heart …
Enjoyed “Goodbye”, not sure about “Heart Heart”.
There is a Youth Hostel in Edinburgh, btw:

“I Still Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye” is rather lovely; reminds me of Steve Forbert. “Heart Heart” is not as endearing.
Punk talking head John Robb was in my local Co-op the other day…
I think “Heart heart” is ramble rousing brilliance – less polished obviously than the too clean (for me) “I Still Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye” …..like the ‘Clap your hands say yeah’, I’m hoping that he hasn’t learnt how to sing too well otherwise it’ll put me off – it’s the ‘On the edge of breakdown vocals and intense words that keep me going back to the original album…
obviously Goodbye is beautiful still – different shakes for different tastes – eh?… but please bring on the new album.
Right, I decided I couldn’t write yet another comment saying “I really must get round to buying the album”, so have just been to his website and ordered it. Now hopefully not too long to wait to the next one. Liked the first track here especially.
