I found it a difficult album to listen to Blimpy – but not in a sense of hard subject matter – the self mutilation is not a music subject I want to indulge in – I could listen- but only if i didn’t have a distinct lack of connection to her and the songs. (It felt a lot like the Heroin Chic photo’s in fashion mag’s of the ’90′s to me…I understand – but I’m looking away)
that’s taking nothing away from what she sings about and has gone through – I hope making the album has helped – but it’s not coupled with my experiences.
I’ve had one proper listen through and am now on my second. The first time Mrs McF described it as “Hole without the songs” but I think there’s more to it than that. I have read some EMA interviews since reading your comment, I hadn;t realised it’s all abusive relationships and “20 kisses with a butterfly knife” before that, and we all know what the logical end point of that is…yes…it’s “Pain Cave”…
Maybe the world doesn’t want a new Patti Smith.
I think its genius is lost on me, Mr. Blimpy

This comes in second to “Pain Cave”
