  1. Heaven is…
getting woken up early by the dog, finding shane and shoey playlists to fill the gap ’til breakfast…
MC 900 ft Jesus takes me back to a previous life… (I had a friend who was a big fan).. great brass..
The R.L. Burnside soothes my tortured soul (o.k. tortured is maybe a bit strong… I’m perhaps just slightly frazzled at this early hour..) and I’m really touched the girls have put on their best to meet me at the pearly gates… finding the Jeffrey Lewis nicely hypnotic, lovely turn of phrase (when we kick the bucket/let’s just say chuck it)
(Good to see even heaven has its SNAFU’s though- tracklisting seems to get scrambled around 8 and 9)

  2. Not much purgatory here. Four donds from me.

Loved the reggae undertones and squelchy chill of Adrian Sherwoods’ St Peter’s Gate. Wolfgang Press’ Heaven’s Gate I liked even more – very chilled and soothing. Heaven may well be in the Mississippi delta, because R L Burnsides’ I Wish I Was In Heaven Sitting Down was definitely my favourite track, and definitely a candidate for dond of the week. Jesca Hoops’ Havoc in Heaven was interesting and I liked the voice very much. Jeffrey Lewis’ Bugs and Flowers, very deliciious. (I fully expect to hear to hear it in the soundtrack of the next Shrek movie!)

    • Glad you found some stuff you liked, SR. Don’t think RLB was mentioned on the Mothership – feel free to grab it if you want.

      • I liked most of it. Thanks for the offering, but the genre is very well-represented already and I have already posted a BUNCH of stuff.

        Thanks, though. Much appreciated.

  3. ha ha – while i’m listening and I remember – I’d like to say Pip’Xeo (7 months old yesterday) has just drummed along to Raymen! – controlled slow beats – fantastic… back later – still listening.

    • loved MC 900 Ft Jesus.

      you know we’ve both put:
      Wolfgang Press – Heaven’s Gate
      R. L. Burnside – I Wish I Was In Heaven Sitting Down
in playlists before – great tracks.

(3 recommends for an entire Wolfgang Press b list over on RR – I thought we’d failed in our years to encourage the Press worship – if only the posts could be reduced – things would be looking up)

I like the idea of a ‘Rebel Side Of Heaven’ no siree am I going to hell – but I don’t wanna be with the goodie two shoes.

Jeffrey Lewis – would obviously be in my heaven.

      and loved Jesca hoop..
      cheers mate.

      • it’s quite a shocker to realise you weren’t around for a topic.
Heaven and Hell being a old theme (Feb 2007) and I know Tincanman thinks us old timers worship the ground Dorian walks on, so I’d like to add to his brilliant mistake of adding Allison by Pixies to ‘girls names’ with this:

This week’s subject is heaven and hell. In RR’s early days, when I was not in full control of my vessel, I made the mistake of squeezing God, Jesus and the devil into one playlist. I soon learnt my lesson: there are always far more relevant songs than you expect so don’t combine themes. Now, at least, some of those excellent suggestions should get another hearing.

Dorian – Heaven AND Hell – how many themes is that then?

    • Good to see you are raising a psychobilly!

That Dorian quote is what you would expect from the original RR guru. JonD seems to be from the PMac school – well meaning, but priorities all wrong.
