Carole’s latest quiz

Hi ‘Spillers, it’s time to start earning more of those valuable ‘Spill points again.

But remember;

Your ‘Spill points will not be brought to you by Xerox in 4 parts without commercial interruptions.

Your ‘Spill points will not show you pictures of Nixon blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John Mitchell, General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.

Your ‘Spill points will not be televised.

Your ‘Spill points will not be brought to you by the Schaefer Award Theatre and will not star Natalie Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia. Your ‘Spill points will not give your mouth sex appeal.

Your ‘Spill points will not be televised.

Anyway, there are a dozen intros from songs, some pretty well known, others maybe less so.

Over to you.

  1. Enjoyed listening, Carole, but not much recognition, bar Communards not wanting to be left that way. A couple of others were familiar sounding, and I recognise a talking voice from downunder. Look forward to more knowledgeable folk revealing all…now, back to some serious work on my tan, on the mothership!

  2. Isn’t 3. Rolf Harris?

    4. is annoying me, as I reckon I should know it, but I don’t.

    5. Depeche Mode?

    6. Gladys Knight?

    7. Deffo in my collection, possibly even on my Walkman, but is dancing round me like a puppy that doesn’t want its bath. C’mere, y’little sod!

  3. 8. Nope.

    9. No again.

    10. Not a clue.

    11. WTF?

    12. If this is J&MC, it isn’t anything I own, which includes Some Candy Talking.

Nah, you got me beat this time Carole.

I’ll get back to you on #7, but that’s almost certainly it.

  4. 1 is Japan and The Art Of Parties
2 is The Communards and Don’t Leave Me This Way

12 is JAMC, but we still need the right tune

The rest is still up for grabs.

Hint – the voice is Rolf but he isn’t the artist.

  5. Albahooky snaffles a few more ‘Spill points.

    So far we definitely have;

1 Japan and The Art Of Parties
2 The Communards and Don’t Leave Me This Way
    3 ?
    4 ?
    5 Gorrilaz and Stylo
    6 ?
    7 ?
8 ????? and Season Of The Witch
    9 ?
    10 ?
    11 ?
12 JAMC and Taste Of Cindy

  6. Stereotyping myself somewhat but I can only help with Number 6. It’s Work To Do and since the Isleys’ version has a more piano-based intro and this is quite horny, I’d have to say it’s the Average White Band.

  7. Time for some wild guesses and to show my ignorance, big time.
Number 3 is Kate Bush – the Painter’s Link, I own that.
Number 8 is by Kooper, Bloomfield and Stills, I love the bass, so grooovy, great version.

Now for am I in the right area guesses,
9 – is it Killing Joke? I feel I should know it
10 – made me think of the Creatures am I in the right ball park?
11- reminded me of the Orb, but I am very vague about them

I don’t know what 7 is, but I’d like to listen to the rest of it when someone guesses.

    Fun quiz :-)

  8. Ooh great work here people, we now have

1 Japan and The Art Of Parties

    6 ?
7 Lynyrd Skynyrd – Poison Whiskey
8 Kooper, Bloomfield and Stills and Season Of The Witch (although no Mike Bloomfield on that track, he was off on a heroin session when it was recorded)
    9 ?
    10 ?
    11 ?
12 JAMC and Taste Of Cindy

  9. frickin ‘ell that’s really tough.

    I recognised 2 & 12.

I feel I know 9 but it may just be familiar sounding.

10 is a weird track off the foxbase alpha – st ettiene album I think (??) – some sort of card game is going on. I’d have to check what it’s called though.

9 is really bugging me now lol.

    stumped on the rest.

6 AWB and Work To Do
7 Lynyrd Skynyrd – Poison Whiskey
8 Kooper, Bloomfield and Stills and Season Of The Witch (although no Mike Bloomfield on that track, he was off on a heroin session when it was recorded)
    9 ?
    10 St Etienne and ?????
    11 ?
12 JAMC and Taste Of Cindy

If nobody gets the last three and a half I will post the answers tomorrow evening.

    • I now know the answer to No.4, but only because I got so annoyed at it I Shazammed it!!

So I won’t claim anything or even give the game away about it, except to say that I don’t own it, so never would have got there.

  11. Right. As promised, here are the answers;
