Hate to quibble Shoey my old mucker but Let Me Introduce You To The Family isn’t about the Mafia. Hugh Cornwall explained it was just a song fantasising about having the kind of ideal family that he felt he hadn’t had. Of course this was The Stranglers who had a certain nasty image to maintain so someone decided the cover art for the 7″ should feature the Mafia. Good single though. As you suggested it would have been a bit subtle for them.
Right I’m off to do something less pedantic!
Home taping is of course illegal (and it’s killing music) so is on topic – in fact did anyone think of C30,C60,C90 Go?
I might give Yeah Yeah Noh a listen tomorrow – I vaguely remember them and they were local.
Listened to the first 4 so far. I absolutely loved Jack. Liked the Mountain Goats a lot too. Liked Stealing ok. Despite the devoted RR fans of the Stranglers, i still haven’t really taken to them yet. I liked Family better than most of theirs i’ve heard to date, but it’s not love.
Early Stranglers have a much harder edge & they got more mellow as time went on. Would suggest Black & White, 3rd album in, as a starting point. Almost a punk prog album. Avoids their earlier excesses & misogyny, but doesn’t get dull, like some of their later output.
Loved the Monochrome Set track. Was hitherto (what a great word that is) only familiar Jet Set Junta – which I love too. May have to investigate to see if more of their stuff is available…
Bish, original albums may be tricky to find now, but there are plenty of compilations.
been listening to the Goats ‘All Survivors Pack’ this week – takes me back to the tape recorded albums.. nostalgic. (kicking around the usual sites – as it’s limited)
Laika – was my fav newbie- don’t think I’ve ever heard them before – beautiful website – but can’t download any mp3′s (shame)
stina was gorgeous to finish with (wouldn’t be surprised if tomorrows theme is ‘murder’ tho, so you might be a bit previous)

how bizarre is the backing on High Hawk Season on the official album – it’s like he’s gone to sing in Hernandoz Hideaway! ha ha.

Am sure you are right, Prof. Wyngate. Think the mafia myth does add another level, particularly as it was well before the Sopranos.
Biggest screw up of the week was Stealing. Not about preachers at all, but about home taping. D’oh!

Gah, familiar with – wish my two-finger typing was as quick as my brain.

great set – ta.
Liking the new Goats – it does sound like a cleaned-up version of some of the early stuff.
Glad you Laika. Will box some up for you.
