She’s maybe a bit mainstream for ‘Spill tastes, but I’ve always thought she was the most interesting of the post-Winehouse chantoozies and I think this track is stunning, so I thought I’d draw it to the attention of those who are even less up on the current hit parade than I am. At least she’s not still banging on about chasing pavements…
PS Good instructions on creating posts, maki! I followed ‘em; they worked.
Good on yer, Bish!
One of the best things about not being in the UK is that I never have any idea as to what is chart music and what is perhaps, a little cooler. i like this,
I’ve always liked her cover of Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love”. I thought she made a really good job of it and that not something I say often about Dylan covers.
Thanks Maki. And yes, her version is lovely, Mnemonic – although it has had the unfortunate effect of turning the song into one of those ubiquitous X Factor-style audition numbers that melismatic wannabes howl in Simon Cowell’s face on a regular basis!
Well, that was way better than I had her pegged for. Great production job, I woulda liked a wee bit more torture/heartbreak in her vocal mind you.
Great stuff. I daresay that you won’t be surprised, Bishbosh, when I tell you that I’ve always liked Adele’s music (even though she hasn’t crept into the Zala CD rack yet).
I liked that, bish – REALLY liked the film, and I think that’s a song with ‘grow-on-you’ potential. I have to confess that my favourite new chantoozie [word of the month, January 2011!] is, thanks to one Mr. Rocking Mitch, Ms. Paloma Faith.
Yeah, I’ve always been a bit dubious about her too, Blimpy – had her down as a bit of too ‘Duffy’ (see also tinny’s recent comment on his tincanland blog!), but I think she’s proving to be more interesting. Know what you mean about the vocal, but she’s only 21 – give her time…
Ha ha, of course you have, Zalamanda – I can count on you! The ‘official’ vid is pretty good too, debby – in a glossier sort of way.
Dunno, jury is out for me. She certainly has a good voice, but the vocal was a bit over the top for my taste. I can’t help thinking of other singers like Alison Moyet with better nuance. (That may not be quite the word i’m thinking of). As you say, give her some time.
I like this, I also liked her first single, Hometown Glory when it first came out.
We can add to that chart success factor with the Jamie xx remix:
New LP is very good. Good songwriter too. There’s a whole heap of talent coming through. I thought originally that whole mockney pose was irritating but if that’s how you actually talk fair enough !
I’m very mainstream bish, dunno about the ‘Spill…
A deal? A deli? A daily?
