Tincanman, DaddyPig, Webcore and DsD (Maki behind camera)

And then I found out the makiphone does have a flash!

(As above, with Maki either behind camera or on one of his innumerable visits to the loo!)

Many thanks to all of you for coming and making my last night in the UK such fun. Special thanks to DaddyPig for putting up with my driving and being such excellent company on the drive over the Pennines and to DsD and DsUncle for providing much needed assistance on the trek back to the B&B.

DsD – if you have any photos with me in, please send me them and I’ll add them.

Love to all from a now-sober Maki!

Edit: Now with added DBT for DsD This was on a sampler of forthcoming releases that came with a mag I picked up at the airport – don’t know if you’ve already got it but here goes just in case:

  1. There you all are! No-one going for the cliched ‘dry’ January, I see… Good good. Looks like a nice pub too, despite DsUncle’s failure to recommend. Now bring us pictorial proof of the existence of Maki!

  2. @ Maki – just sent the photo from my mobile to yours. Text me back if it doesn’t come through OK, and then I’ll have to re-do it from the computer later.

  3. So that’s what you look like Maki, not quite what I expected. I was thinking a bit more flamenco, a bit more haughty, maybe a red cape draped over a shoulder and a funny hat! No? The others I already had on file.

    • Funny you should say that GF. Before I left for England Mrs Maki warned me that people would probably have a very different idea of what I looked like, after all what is a middle aged Englishman doing posting flamenco and other Spanish goodies on RR / the ‘Spill!

  4. I think we’re all very brave to meet up in real life, somehow one can be much younger online, musing on the tunes we love, under top secret pretend names. Great photos, thanks Maki and DsD.

    • I agree, I like to hide behind my pretend name and internet persona, but it looks like you had a good time and you have given me courage. If there ever is West Country social, I will do my best to attend!

  6. There we go! Good to finally put a face to the person, Maki.

Dunno what webcorex2 is on about above, but sure it makes sense to you Social types…

  7. BISHBOSH – It’s the tracklist for the CD I gave out. Told ‘em I’d do it. No ink in my printer, mildly arthritic fingers, only way I could do it.

    • Not so much Red Leicester, more like a dobbin’ great wedge of Glaswegian Black [humour].

My PC threw a CD-burning wobbler the day before the meet, so I subbed books for compilations, and handed out some Brookmyre to anyone who’d take it. And Maki now has the copy of Hornby’s Juliet, Naked that DaddyPig gave me back in the autumn, that I did the book-sharing thread on.

Looking forward to a rapid conclusion to the Fifth Test tonight, so I can give Guru#5′s RR debut MFF my full attention.

  8. I can’t be the only one who remembers seeing a picture of Maki before? There was one in front of a house, maybe your old house in the UK?

    • Well, the Christmas sign-off said ‘…we’re back with a new topic on 7 January’, so it seems likely. Whether it’s a midnight release or will simply appear during the day like other blogs, who can tell? But they seemed to be trying to re-assure us that the only change is the end of the printed column, so I suspect the MFF will continue.
      See you later.

  9. I notice that between the two pictures I apparently acquired a couple of pints and a bag of Red Leicester sandwiches. None of that is fattening, is it? If I can’t fit into my RR thong tonight because of you bastards, well there’ll be heck to pay.

  10. @ Maki re DBT – haven’t had a listen yet, but if the track is “I Used To Be A Cop”, I’ve already got it. As far as I can gather, there’s only two songs out in the public domain from the upcoming Go-Go Boots album, and (whisper it) I’m not impressed by either of ‘em.

  11. Looks like you had a great time. Sorry I couldn’t make it – apart from anything else I would have loved one of Webcore’s damn fine Beefheart comps (though I must admit I would have tried to squeeze ‘Sure Nuff’ in there)!

  12. Nice one, DsD (Even though On-U & Skids, omissions continue, I see). Did they put Grateful Chris’ or Professor Rich’s pic up with it by mistake? You would expect the Gruniad to get the name wrong, but that’s a new one (or am I just being slow on a joke?).

  13. I think what we are seeing here is that the social justice side of the Guardian is neccesary. The leave you lot without a topic for a couple of weeks and look what tomfoolery you get up to!

Come on, quick, a diversion for our troubles good man
