‘Tis about that time so let’s launch Festive ‘Spill 2010. Continuing the tradition established by the late, great John Peel, when we sort out our fave tunes of the year to listen to over the festive season.
Quick reminder of how to play The ‘Spill version:
- Each ‘Spiller (or RR lurker) can nominate 3 songs.
- Songs should be new releases from 2010 (or late 2009). If you don’t have any faves from this year, you may pick 3 tunes that you think are fitting for the occasion. Please be clear which pick is which (#3,#2 or #1), as we playlist everyone’s choices countdown stylee, a few days before Christmas.
- Send your nominations to shoemail@earthlink.net. Your e-mail should contain URL links to actual mp3′s (You can use your private folder in Dropbox; Don’t use the RR folder as this will spoil the surprise.). Please leave the files there until you get a confirmation from me that I’ve got them. If you are fearful or inadequate with the technology, just send me a list of picks and I’ll see what the elves can do.
- Nominations are on a first come, first served basis. So vote early. If one of your picks is taken, I will e-mail you back so you can make another one.
- Now that we’ve done this twice before, it is now an official ‘Spill tradition. Please take part if you can.

yay – the joys of new music.. I will spend the next 5.9 days listening to the songs from this year I’ve picked up – (without sleep) – so I can find 3 for you.
Count me in shoey!
I shall have a think. 2010 has been a good year.
I felt ‘too new’ to contribute last year, but am deffo in for this year. Unfortunately, I’ve spent so much time over the last 12 months listening to stuff dropped by RRers in the Box that I’ve barely bought any newly released music! At least – unlike Shane – it shouldn’t take me too long to whittle my choices down!
I’m a newbie & like Bishbosh nearly everything new to me has come from the RR/Spill connection but since thinking of it has me awake at 1:38 am local time it must mean I’m in .
Well, as some of you know, my two top musical heroes have sorely disappointed me of late and it’s not entirely a coincidence that a musical revolution has been taking place at tfd Towers…the shock news is that, despite him having released an album in 2010, Richard Thompson will not be featuring in my top 3. These are already chosen and will be winging their way to Florida (Florida! well, that’s a big clue to who’s going to be no. 1) as soon as I get home – courtesy of Maki, who has kindly enabled my participation now that Dropbox has banned me.
Like Fintan and Bishbosh, I’m new to this. And like many others, my listening for 2010 has mostly been via RR, the Spill or Earworms.
Not sure that I’ve got enough of this years stuff to post anything……….but I’ll have a good time trying.
Thanks Shoey.
Yay! Thanks for doing this Shoey – I’ve been refining my Top 3 for most of the year. Just going to listen to your AOTM post to see if there’s anything to displace the current incumbents…
Thanks for organising this Shoey! I’ve just sent you mine.
Yes!!!!
(Carole – Warpaint and their “Undertow” are MINE ALL mine!! I ‘spilled it first!!! )
That said – looking at my stats…..
MAN this is hard, I knew it would be…….but still……..
Can I submit 6?
Only if Speng let’s you have his votes.
Or “Captain Raveman”……hehehe
Okay, I’ve picked 3, and Warpaint didn’t make the cut. . .
Thanks for the response so far. Probably won’t get to updating the festive spreadsheet until the weekend, so please leave your files in place until you get an e-mail confirm from me. Haven’t seen any repeats on first glance, but get yer picks in early to avoid being duped, procrastinators.
If anyone has contact with any absent ‘Spill friends, please let them know we want their picks too.
Will sort out broadcast times later, but am open to requests for when we should post these up?
Still on the subject of voting for stuff, the ‘Spill has been asked to vote in the annual Scottish Bloggers And Music Sites poll again – we’re allowed 3 contributors to vote, so if anyone fancies it, please mail me via the contact form, or the usual address – a mild Scots bent would be good but isn’t necessary.
I’m a bit like tfd – DBT’s Big To-Do was a massive letdown – but I have emailed Shoey my No.1 Pick. I am still struggling with Nos 2&3.
Still thinking.
