Here’s my father on his motorbike, some time in the mid-1930s I would say. Look at the headlamp on that!

  1. I remember when they all looked like that, look at those front forks, they hadn’t invented telescopic yet. I can’t make out what sort it is, do you know, it might be a BSA single 350cc. There were literally dozens of makes who’ve all disappeared, ie; Enfield, Ariel, Norton, Triumph, BSA, Velocette, Vincent, AJS, Matchless and many more. Can’t imagine riding a bike in English weather though millions did.

  2. Super picture. I remember my brother’s motorbike, in the late 1960s – apart from the fact that he fell off it and broke his collarbone it was a bit of a liability as our neighbour’s dog used to chase after it every time he heard it – Alan used to have to push it 100 yards up the road before he could get on it (and dismount 100 yards from home on the way back!)
