Two contrasting tracks I’m listening to a lot at the moment.. Andreya has gathered her belongings on a train, Thom is recommending you take the same route.. lyrically, each of these songs convey a feeling of helplessness, dispair, regret.. but the music in each case has, for me, the burnished feel of autumn leaves and the acknowledgement that decay brings on new cycles of life.
Black Swan – one of my favourite songs ever. Thank you.
Cheers, Ali! I only discovered it by chance on a compilation, but it stood out right away- beautiful sound.
Like both of these a lot & would even venture that Thom Yorke’s solo was beter than both Kid & & Amnesiac.
Cheers shoey.. I must listen to some of the solo stuff, have to say I’ve never really liked any Radiohead I’ve heard to date.
i love the bonobo – but the shocker here is I liked the thom* too.
*I was once at a secret gig he performed and was so overwhelmed by intense dislike for the whine of his music and voice that I walked before the first track ended – I even went to places playing real ‘shit’ music (my take on such things) to take the distinctive sound of his out of my mind – and felt guilty because I knew people that would chew off their own arm to have been there.
one of my distinct – ‘don’t get’ singers… nice to be surprised by a tune in an artists repertoire – that you wouldn’t go out a discover otherwise – cheers nilpferd.
You’re welcome! Not often I introduce you to something indie.. I got it off the Cinematic Orchestra Late Night Tales cd- well worth a listen, it’s a great compilation.
Late Night Tales are usually good quality choices – I picked up a few in the past by Flaming Lips – Groove armada – Tommy Guerrero and some ‘back to mine’ along similar lines…
shall look out for the Cinematic Orchestra one.
Nice, Nilpferd. Particularly like the Thom Yorke (I do like radiohead, mind you.) Isaac likes the video for Black Swan as well.
Autumn does have a sweetly melancholy feel, doesn’t it. Not looking forward to the time change, I must say.
I am- (looking forward to the time change)- I hate getting up when it’s dark.. the extra hour gets us through to christmas. Plus it’s a holiday here on Monday.
I wanted to add, regarding the Bonobo track, that the saxophone player is Jack Wyllie from Portico Quartet.
Yes, that Jack Wyllie.
*Spill jaws drop in a dozen continents*
I cannot believe it!
Liking the Bonobo a lot.
(Man, your jaw was down a long time..)
You can play both of these tunes simultaneously, and it still works, a weird duet about trains. Thanks Nilp!
Hey.. freaky.. you’re right! I did notice they’re about the same length, but it never occured to me to play them together.. that’s brilliant.. particularly like the bit where Andreya sings ..as I dance to my defeat, followed by Thom’s you cannot kick start a dead horse..
Adam makes a good point. Here’s what I left as a comment on his post and it is whilowhrte to think about here:This is one of those things where there isn’t any right answer only variations of opinions. It would be interesting to know if the variations on the opinions reflected how the person actually uses LinkedIn.For example, I’m a I need to know you person when it comes to LinkedIn. Adam and I are LinkedIn, but it was because we have blogs, commented on each others blogs, and exchanged some e-mails.But, I don’t use LinkedIn as my primary networking and personal branding tool. Having a network on LinkedIn is important but not that much. But if others use LinkedIn as their primary networking tool, including all the other things you can do with it (Jason Alba’s book: I’m LinkedIn, now what? comes to mind ), then I suspect that those people want to connect with many more people, even if the connection is more obscure. So are you a person who likes to know people they link to but don’t use LinkedIn as your primary networking tool? Or do you want lots of connections because you use LinkedIn as your primary networking tool?Or is it something different?
