Ari Up of the Slits has died at 48.
Punk writer John Savage gives his tribute here, and I thought I’d post my favourite two Slits songs.

Don’t normally go for these RIP posts, but that is really sad. Last year’s next gen Slits album wasn’t that strong, unfortunately. Good call on Shoplifting “Do a runner, do a runner”. Would also rec the Man Next Door cover during the Don & Nenah Cherry period. & Pretty much anything from On-U’s New Age Steppers. Also did some great stuff with Dubblestandart a couple of years back
Blimpy – good choices, how could anyone not smile at this :
I love bandstands generally!
Just listening to the Warpaint LP, and “Bees” is sounding decidedly Slitsian all of a sudden.
Patti Smith, Siouxsie and The Slits were three big influences on me back in the late 1070s and early 1980s.
Poor Ari.
I used to love her confrontational attitude. So different from the mainstream and the total antithesis of the Cowell clones of today.
Just read the article and added a comment. Never saw them in the day, but caught them in Manchester earlier this year, and loved it. Have to put a word in for my favourite track – ‘Instant Hit’.
