Just polishing tomorrow’s earworms, in which I was going to post one of the following, when I read that Solomon Burke had died. Initially thought of adding this player at the end of the earworms post but it didn’t seem appropriate.
Enjoy, as the Guardian says, “the beautiful voice, apparently effortless style, and pristine diction and timing” of the man in this almost random 5 song selection.

Thanks Maki.
“Effortless” – YES! That’s it. Solomon never wormed his way into my heart, and now that his death has made me think about why not, I reckon that one word may be it. The relatively small exposure I had to his music didn’t give him a chance to grab me emotionally, precisely because he was so smooth.
The first three of your playlist tunes kinda continued the trend too, Maki, but I’m glad I persisted, ’cause I LOVED Mabel, in which, lo and behold, he actually lets rip enough to get a little rough round the edges.
So … never one of my favourites, but obviously a sad and unexpected loss.
RIP, Mr. Burke.
Mabel was a very latter day cut. From the Jools Holland “Friends…” sessions. It wasn’t going to be my earworm. WB got that one!
Well done Maki. Can’t stop playing ‘Cry to Me’; what a great song.
Maki: I don’t want to be the first to pour cold water on your post but what about those 21 children? Plus 30 stone [420lb] ! Though I saw him a couple of times I don’t think his music makes up for his adding to the population in that manner nor his consumption of scarce resources. Suppose he lived in UK, is it appropriate to dump that on the state? The reviewers never mention this. And he’s not alone, Bob Marley’s good for 11, I have a picture of Gregory Isaacs 17, should this enter into the discussion? They are not alone.
Apparently Screaming Jay Hawkins had over 60 illegitimate children dotted around the USA and beyond!
Good point, GF. And not one to be ignored but I will say it was some way from my mind when I posted. I have no objection to your bringing it up here, mind you.
