New post-jazz post in an attempt to lure Blimpy back onto the ‘Spill.. Jasper Hoiby has a way with a massive bass-line and his trio is inspired enough to take it somewhere compelling.
Courtesy of the latest NPR Take Five jazz sampler, featuring 5 young British artists and well worth a listen.

I really liked this. I wish I had more intelligent words to explain why. Loved the original bass conceit, obviously, but it had a lovely feeling of dry/wet/glassy… The bass felt hot and dry, the drums were like some cool splash against that, and then the piano was warm and liquid. It seems like it would have been fun to see, and more fun to play.
Well, that sounds like a very intelligent description to me.. perfect way to describe the contrasting textures in the piece.
Like that – it’s jazzy!
That’s a big thumbs up from me!
Thanks guys.. looking forward to the album, will probably be one of my 2010 best ofs.
Listening to them on Spotify just now!
