There’s been a bit of interest in how to post photos in the comments section of the blog.
To do this we need a link. Either linking to the picture on the web page we found it on, from our own flickr page or perhaps from our public dropbox. First step of course is to copy the link. If you are linking to a picture from another website, don’t copy the page address at the top. Right click on the actual photo and choose the “copy link location” option.
Then in the comments box we use the following code:
(Please note that the only space in all the above is the one between “img” and “src”)
That’s basically it.
However, if the piccie is big we may only get part of it. They align left by default (i.e. if it is big we will only see the left hand side of the photo). If in doubt (especially when linking to your own photos) it’s probably a good idea to play safe and add a bit of sizing code. The comments box is deceptively narrow as I have found out to my own cost.
Code including sizing instructions looks like this:
A safe width for the comments box is “450″ to “500″ and the height should be proportional.
I don’t know much about any of this and I’m sure there are plenty of spillers who could probably explain it better but I hate not being able to do something and have sort of worked it out for myself. The same happened with the music player! I have a pdf version of the post I did some time back on the player if anyone would like a copy.
In the meantime, why not use the comments box to play at posting piccies or to abuse me for being a bighead!
Maki

Maki – pedantry here, but i believe it’s crucially important to put the yourlink part in the brackets in quotation marks.
Not at all Amy. Works perfectly well with out them.
Daily i learn new things. I code websites in html and it won’t work without them, good that WordPress takes care of it. You can delete my posts here then as they may confuse the issue.
Not going to delete your post Amy because I think it helps. It points out how confusing WP can be for people who actually know much, much more than I do about these things!
It may possibly depend on the Browser. Most folks who learn HTML work with the official specifications, but most (possibly all modern) browsers have lower standards.
F’rexample: how many people use instead of for bold? The first is the official HTML, the second – well, it’s what people use.
My example didn’t work because I used angle brackets, which are ignored. It was meant to be something like:
How many people use strong instead of b for bold? The first is the official HTML, the second – well, it’s what people use.
Maki: It’s HTML, not WordPress, I think.
Zalamanda – you may be right. I haven’t a clue. It’s certainly odd that strong has been replaced by b and also perhaps worthy of mention that the automatic tags WP uses in the HMTL section of the new / edit post option are old style (although it supports new style) and yet in comments it only supports new style!
The only quotation marks here are the ones you can see!

Is that an image or the blockquote tag
Thought i remembered the blockquotes as grey, but i’m probably wrong there too!
It’s an image I just nicked from a webpage to check that that I was right!
My head hurts!
Sorry Dsd! Couldn’t resist!

Yeah, that’s about the size of it!
G’night, mate.
Night DsD. Night all, in fact. Of to El Corte Inglés tomorrow to sell them English classes! Could be massive. Fingers crossed!
Good luck, Maki! Fingers crossed for you.
Thanks a lot, Maki, and my fingers are completely crossed.
Thanks for your good wishes, everyone. It went very well and I think we’ll get the chance to do a pilot and a few other things besides that will hopefully lead to greater things which will mean I can offer work to people who are having a bad time because of the recession and that makes me very happy!
