I always thought it was almost a shame she hit so big with her first album: everything afterwards was almost inevitably going to be perceived as a failure. Whereas, as this video shows, she made some lovely later records. This is probably my fave post-Ancient Heart song of hers:

I once spent an evening chatting to her in a pub near my folks watching her brothers band (I think).. he was at Uni near – I say *chatting*- I didn’t know who she was, but my technique for speaking to nice looking women was drink copious amounts of beer and hope they took pity on my uselessness before I started dribbling – there was a fine line, where my excitement turned to slurring if they did succumb to my incompetence…. anyway she was lovely- we chatted about music lots, she used big words that I didn’t understand… I told her to listen to ‘Days of wine and Roses’ by the Dream Syndicate (I think – cos the bands in the pub had that Paisley Underground feel) and she was really enthusiastic, even with me getting her name wrong – then I saw her on Top Of The Pops…..
