Anticipation

Thursday evening. A few hours to go till MMF. Oh, the anticipation!

Are you, like me, more of the nervous, jittery F5 hammering brigade? Bit like the guy in the Guinness advert…

Or are you more like Carly? Let’s have a singalong and just wait till the blog’s up…

  1. Oh, most definitely a button pusher.

Best ‘anticipation’ line in a song must be the one in Sweet Transvestite, from the Rocky Horror Show (or Picture Show) soundtrack:

So come up to the lab,
And see what’s on the slab.
I see you shiver with anticip………………..pation

Near the end of the link…

  2. Zenlike calm & tranquility after last week’s grumpiness (could all change, however, if a theme is spotted before kick-off – with luck PMac will be better than BP at plugging a leak)

  3. Will restrain from listing, but you will find Can’s Hunters & Collectors & something from the band Hunters & Collectors in my trad weekly ‘Spill playlist.

    • Ha, that reminds me of annoying an aussie ex-punk flatmate by continually referring to his favourite band as “Hunters & Gatherers”.

  4. You know I seriously don’t remember seeing ANY of the songs that made the A-List being recommended. I don’t even recognise any of them as songs I’ve ever heard of. Is it just me???

    • I definitely remember the Yves Montand as I donded it, no particular recollection of any of the rest.

Not wishing to start moaning again – as I said, I really didn’t know any decent songs about bicycles, and it would be too much to expect that any of the songs I discovered as a result of the theme would get chosen, much as I currently love them – but this does tend to confirm a sneaking feeling I have about the current regime, namely that the actual recommendations don’t seem to count for as much as they used to. In the past, there was a sense that the Guru could almost be talked into listing something, at any rate in the B list with a mention for the eloquence of the nominator. These days, I think, one of the reasons why the A list seems so often to come as a slightly unpleasant surprise is that I rarely have any recollection of the songs being suggested at the time. Okay, Guru’s privilege to choose on any basis he wants, but if recommendations don’t count for much it does tend to reinforce the behaviour of the MFF List Brigade…

      • For the last three themes I’ve actually put some effort in over on RR – It might be my odd effort – but for someone who will take 15 minutes just to type out this reply (as I’ve said before I see letters in mirror image – that’s why images are easier)

But I got a comment about my posts in the write up and so did EJD (and two B’s for Hats) and Then an A in Manual Labour – for Cvalda, plus mentions from people about enjoying the find. Then another A for John Cale…. I nominated it twice just to make sure, because I love it so (and I was pissed) – the effort has counted.

So I’ve noticed a right up-turn in my posts being noticed -eloquence isn’t the right word – but individuality has paid off.

My team is having a good run – that’s all – it’ll soon change and someone else’s style will connect for a while.

      • I guess you’re right; it’s terribly subjective, and I’ve obviously noticed the people recommending songs that I knew or connected with a lot more than I noticed things that didn’t quite click, and then if the latter get into the list they seem like they’ve come out of the blue… Just ignore me.

    • Thanks shoey. that makes three!! Half a dozen B’s with PaulMac. A couple of A’s with Rob. This feels like a breakthrough. Also made the B last week so this is the first time I’ve listed two weeks in a row. (Interestingly 2 of my 3 A’s have been in foreign!!)

  5. I recommended A Bicyclette (in a list damn it) and it got a few donds. I think there’s a couple from Lambre that were properly nommed as well.I have to say I don’t know many of them, though so I’m looking forward to the spotify before passing judgement.

  6. I nommed John Cale – classic lovely track
and was beaten to St.Vincent so donded it.

blimpy nipped in with Rims – between nappy changes.

Look at me (I got to read the whole blog for the first time since 1000 post became normal)

  7. There may be some Mogwai too, but that’s too bleeding obvious, but good none the less. God, I hate these leaks – really spoils the kick-off. There may need to be some whining.

  8. Up until recently, I was a frantic refresher, but recently, I’m becoming more and more relaxed, checking in at 10 past midnight. I’m actually in between moods at the moment, it all depends if i see RR as a neurotic attempt to persuade a man I’ve never met to include songs in a newspaper column, OR as a forum to chat, share and discover music among friends.
