Under The Covers with Ramsey Lewis

No guessing which top pop combo Mr Lewis is covering, but it’s the way they’ve been covered : luscious strings, horns and even a moog!  It’s all for you in the ‘box … and on a thingy player (mucho gracias maki!)

  1. Looks good, Albahooky! I’m looking forward to hearing it. The only ramsey Lewis track I have is one that Pete Rock sampled…Sun Goddess.

    • There are few more joyful songs than a jazz version of Hang On Sloopy. Not that the audience seem to be enjoying it in the second clip.

      • Nope, they do not look happy at all. I think it’s the parents of the kids in this clip, struggling through Eddie Harris’ Listen Here. The poor suckers. Except for the guy air drumming on his knees and a few desultory hand claps, they look like they’ve been forced into a seminar on frozen food.

  2. That was lush!! I liked the instrumentation.

I’m always conflicted about Beatles covers. EVen Nina Simone singing Here Comes the Sun. There’s no reason not to like it, but for some reason I just can’t listen to it. I think my dislike for the Beatles is not rational or reasonable. It’s more of an aversion. Or an allergy. I have tried to like them, too!

Having said that, I did enjoy listening to this album, and a couple of the tracks appealed greatly.

    Thanks, Albahooky!
