Do the Arctic Monkeys have a summer home in Canada? Here’s two tracks – YVR; Zero Results – from the Victoria, B.C. band Hot Hot Heat’s fifth album Future Breeds. They’ve struggled to break through so maybe this was a good plan. They don’t quite have Alex Turner’s way with words though.

We don’t have fervoured celebrations (we are Canadian after all) in the streets denouncing our historic oppressors, but most towns have at least a parades and face painting and a bit of music, etc. Its more a nice summer family community day than a big show of patriotism/nationalism, which is good. Long weekend too
, the best one of the year really because wherever day of the week it falls we can usually stretch it into a four day weekend. Plus most of us live along the border with the U.S. and they have theirs July 4, so with lots of cross border traffic we all eat too many burgers for a few days.
