If you don’t want to listen to the biased reporting before the match today – here is a quick selection of tunes (hopefully) to get you through sanely.
For those that aren’t German or English (or don’t care) – it’s just a football match.
These songs don’t relate.. but are a bit of fun.
As my ‘sister in law’ who is German stayed last night – I tried to come up with some more interesting headlines – than our trash papers or theirs:
Klose but no coconut.
Ozil and out.
This is a Löw..
what’s your headline?
Can’t wait for the match.. think it’ll be 3-1 to German in my head, but hope a bizarrely talented England turn up for a shock to my system.. everybody else is off for a swim in the sea.. because they just don’t give a damn.
1-0 England
It’s not the bias in the pre-match that stops me tuning in, it was the inannity in the Slovenia pre-match.
”oh, hang on, news alert! Some kind of health scare”
”OMG Gary, what?”
”I don’t know. Some kind of fever ….”
ffs
I think that England may just pull this one off.
I’m going to go 3-1 England actually. Why be safe when you can be sorry. er, or whatever
a Lahm ing refereeing
so much for a talented England turning up – but cracking.
Commiserations, people.
Right about the poor reffing, even with our neighbour’s 4 yr old waving his Germany flag in my face I could see that ball behind the line- in fact there was such an intake of breath in Stuttgart the fire on the barbie just about went out.
At least there were no red cards, goalkeeping gaffes, or penalties.
(I feel like Mike Ballack sms-ing JT and Lamps)
it’s just happened to poor old Mexico too… blatant off side goal given to Argentina… what a day.
It would have been a different game at 2-2 but that is no excuse for the terrible football England played in all 4 games… they were lucky it was only four.
You sort of wish for a cricket style honourable rescindment from the captain- the opportunity is there with the big screen- Lahm or Messi could look up and say to the ref, “sorry mate, it was/wasn’t a goal after all”…
honour and fare(?sp) play is lost in modern football… and that makes me sad. Even though I’m obsessed by the technique of football (it was supposed to be my ‘destiny’) I don’t care for the players or teams any more… and in a way finding my knees would never cope and using art as therapy changed my entire personality…
but …watching Argentina is the saddest.. the God and Devil of football must be Argentine, to see such beauty in play.. and then such petulance and blatant acting is shameful.. in a game where they are 3-1 up.. after being given a goal start – they still want to get players sent off or be given cards… I feel for the Mexicans… but it is only a game.
That’s why it is so important here for the gifted people here like you and I to be gracious winners shane. You’re never one to rub it in when you are inevitably shown to be right, and I try to follow your example. oops, wrong verb tense. I will try if it ever happens.
tinny – it’s the graciousness of the ‘spill that makes us all winners – right or wrong.
(I do wish sometimes that I could just go ‘PASSION who cares’ instead of a cold analysis) but I think I try to champion that in music and art rather than football… millionaire footballers don’t need a helping hand from me.
(and most piss poor musicians are probably immune to my charms also)
I’m the same way about sport (although soccer I don’t know anywhere near well enough to assess technically) and am the first to admit that I don’t ‘get’ fans. I’m as passionate about the teams and people I follow as the next guy, but that doesn’t cause me to spew poison and juvenile taunts when they come up against a stronger opponent. I can have an off day, too, where the force isn’t quite with me, and does my wife start hurling abuse at me because it’s taking too long to hangup the laundry or because …. ok, bad example. She just gets carried away in the moment. I understand.
Whoops, Maschi, not Messi.
Oh well! Atleast I’m still in the RR sweepstake…
And speaking as a neutral (English born Scot), Germany were simply the better team especially with their breakways for 3rd and 4th goal.
Argentina look horribly good don’t they?
Gordon – they looked the better team going into the game and throughout the tournament. I just hope the Argentina – Germany game on Saturday is played out as football.. not mistakes by officials – if it is, it should be a cracking game – I don’t think either can rely on their defense, so in theory it should be free flowing pure football enjoyment.
(here’s to 0-0 after extra time and penalties then)
I’m gonna say 4 – 1 in favour of Germany. I really hope that’s not the case, but i won’t be surprised if it is.
I’m now looking forward to a final in which, following a fluke win against Brazil, Ghana face Argentina. Ghana win by a last minute mistake/stroke of genius and the world instantly becomes a better place.
that really was sorrowful (and I smashed my head on the concrete after sliding off my bike rushing home from the pub at half time – i’m still a wee bit dizzy…..hmmm…can’t be good!)
so, after that disappointment, i’m putting all my faith into an on-form Japan….I think they may be able to pull off a shock or two!
was you riding your bike horizontally again mr. panther?
