England 1 Kirsty MacColl 2

Will a fire be lit under England bottoms or will the pressure cause even tighter sphincters than the last two games? Come on England!!!

  1. I’m inclined to go with Marina Hyde’s taking of the auspices on this one: “On the night before the Romans were completely destroyed at the Battle of Cannae, there was probably some diseased pancreas suggesting that one underestimated Hannibal at one’s peril. The important thing is that someone had the vision to dismiss it as an outlier.”

  2. Please win, England. You failed to qualify for Euro 2008. You’re messing this one up, too. Do you know how difficult you make life for us expats? (You too, eh Blimpy!!)

Not at all confident, I’m afraid. And that comes more from gut feeling and reading the Grauniad more than the Spanish press has been saying (and that’s plenty), truth be told!

  3. I’m not normally an England fan but i hope they do well tomorrow. I like Capello and a good victory would go some way towards shutting up the press vultures.

  4. As happens every two years we’re at that stage of a major tournament when I am torn emotionally and psychologically….
On the one hand, being of Scottish descent, I’m ready to have a quiet chuckle (I live in England – it has to be quiet) when the greatest team in the world go out before the final..again, but on the other hand I ask myself ‘can I put up with the infernal BLEATING which would accompany the return of all England players to their clubs pre-season training on time? I. Just. Don’t. Know.

But on the other hand, maybe it’s better to get the bleating over with rather than put up with the usual radio and TV punditry along the lines of
‘Well, that was an astonishing result. North Korea beating South Korea 7-0. So, Alan, who do you think Capello should play at centre half?’

    Aaaaagh!

  5. I’ve made my mind up . . .

I want England to go out.

Apart from agreeing with my good friend’s points above re the one-eyed English media and their incessant drivel, my logic also goes thus:

Liverpool look almost certain to appoint Roy Hodgson as their next manager – which I do NOT want to happen.

Roy Hodgson is almost certainly the candidate the FA will turn to in the event of Capello falling on his sword, if England don’t progress tomorrow.

Now, Capello for LFC, that I’d take in an instant!

  6. if USA go through and England don’t, that will be enough for at least 4 years of piss-taking in the office as most of the people I work with are American…England simply HAVE TO win!! Come on!!

(At least this ones on at a reasonable hour – 11pm kick off!)

  7. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
