Any good?

Has anyone seen Noah Baumbach’s new film Greenberg yet? It’s on this afternoon, and I’m swithering about going to see it. The trailer looks good, but I found all the characters in The Squid & The Whale unlikeable (see also Wes Anderson’s entire canon) and I’m worried that the same will be true of Greenberg (despite the way the trailer is cut). If it didn’t have LCD Soundsystem, would the trailer be as good?

  1. It’s had three- and four-star reviews, from what I’ve read. For what, if anything, that’s worth. I’m (always) put off by Rhys Ifans myself.

    Nice use of ‘swithering’, btw.

  2. Ben stiller usually puts me off, but for some reason I’m thinking he’s due a second chance. Rhys Ifans was great when he played Peter Cook, but I can’t think of much else really.

    Am now looking like going… … …

  3. Don’t know about the movie, but…

I think we’re going to get tickets for B&S and Teenage Fanclub in Williamsburg in September. Woohoo! I’ve never ever seen them. I haven’t seen anybody in ages, for that matter.

  4. Couldn’t do the live blogging, it would have been rude to the other 2 people in the cinema!!

Not a bad film, quite insightful and human, free of hollywood cliche for the most part, good soundtrack, about 15 minutes too long, nice alsation dog, Greta Gerwig was ace, my prejudices about the movie were unfounded.

  5. oohh….B&S and the Fannies together sounds brilliant! I’m getting back into b&S these days after going off them for a bit…
