Having decided to stop taking part in RR (simply ’cause it takes up too much of my time) and apropos of absolutely nothing I just thought I’d share my love of Radio Futura with my fellow spillers. This is a band whose songs I occasionally nominated over on the mothership. They were one of the leading lights of the Movida Madrileña of the early to mid eighties and produced some damn fine rock / pop that I think stands the test of time. Here’s half a dozen reasons why I like them. Lambre’s gonna murder me for the sloppiness of this post, but what the hell! I haven’t included my absolute fave ’cause it was an earworm only a week or so ago. I would link to their website but it seems they don’t have one. Here’s a link to their wiki entry (in Spanish) which you could pop into google translator if so inclined.

Thanks Maki, now if you could just arrange a nice Spanish summer to go with it …preferably starting this weekend as Mr Munday is camping in the Lake District!
Have you and MasterMunday packed him off on his tod, Ali?
Or is he actually attending a Spill/RR mass Social that no-one’s told me about? Where IS everyone today? Naffed off early for the Bank Holiday weekend?
(Thanks for the newspaper stuff from the Grosvenor Chemicals fire, btw: another DsD customer bites the dust! *SIGH!*)
And whilst I’m business thanking … Maki? Thanks for the update on the lack of progress!
;o)
Re the music – just started playing it: oh yes, you’d win a couple of points off Jimmy Saville with a guess on the years these were released, wouldn’t you?!
Al i- we have a few degrees to spare over here and I’d be more than happy to send them over. You won’t believe me when I say I miss the mists, the drizzle, the cagouls and the Kendal Mint Cake, but I do! Blencathra in early summer, what joy!
DsD – sorry for lack of progress, Will keep trying… Have fun in Spain. Where are you headed?
Somewhere between Murcia Airport and the coast is all I know, Maki: Julie’s arranged it all. The mum of one of Darcey’s BabyGym friends has an apartment in a holiday complex, which is – by definition, if you think about it – eminently suitable for someone with kids of Darcey’s age.
Ooh, Han Caido Los Dos has just started playing – it’s The Fixx up&dressed, surely?!
Both came out in 83 or 84, right. I think the riff pre-exists either. (Can’t for the life of me remember where, though). Both good songs with very different content. Han Ca’ido los Dos is a very cynical, dark take on the idea of falling in love. (Lambre, quite astutely drew allusions to prisons and the Saw films in his interpretation of the lyrics on the RR falling topic)
Murcia’s OK. We used to have a place on the coast near Mazarrón. The beaches are less long sweeping med type than other places but the natives are friendly and the only downside is a distinct lack of drinking water. Buy bottled before you get to the apartment just to be on the safe side. (They drilled so far into the water table to water the fucking golf courses and so on that it filled up with sea water)
Mr Munday has gone of his own accord (there’s a joke there somewhere) – to a Buddhist festival in Ulveston. Though how he’s going to get on in a small tent with a double hernia I don’t know!!
We’ve taken advantage and sat up late watching The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – young Munday is now asleep on the settee and I’m wondering if I can still carry him up to bed. Could be another hernia in the offing.
Hope one of his enlightenments is it’s your turn for a weekend away next time!
Can’t complain Tinny, I had a weekend with my brother at the beginning of May, and not a tent in sight!
Hey, so did I!
Nice guy, your brother
Loving these (and the others) – thanks, Maki. Particularly “La Negra Flor” and “Veneno en la Piel”, I think. But I need to let them all bed into my brain a bit before singling out – some great stuff.
More importantly, wanted to say how much you’ll be missed over on the Mothership (having just read your post there). Absolutely understand where you’re coming from – and may well follow suit myself before long. If one is a bit ‘all or nothing’ about things, it’s difficult to be casual about participating. Which makes it very time- (and attention-) consuming. And by the sounds of it, you and Mrs Maki have a full life that doesn’t need encroaching on by ultimately pointless blog hobbies! That said… for me now, RR and the Spill are all about the community: I feel I’ve met a lot of great people there/here – and made a lot of new friends. You are of course right up there with the best of ‘em.
Hope to see lots more of you here on t’Spill, Maki. Keep in touch.

Vengo de ponerme al día en RR.. así que te has ido a por tabaco, hombre de Dios?…
Never say never, and all that, but you’re right about the whole thing being time consuming. I have lots of free time myself, and still I find it hard keeping up with everything many weeks.
Now comes the part when I have to kill you, mate…Ok, so “Escuela de Calor” was a previous earworm, but… No “La Estatua del Jardín Botánico”? No “Dance Vd”? No “No Tocarte?” Grrrrr, where’s my chainsaw?
Now, seriously, it’s a good six, they just happen to have more than six to offer (I’d have gone for the originals instead of remixes, but that’s me…)
P.S. Anyway, it’s all well and good if you and RR are parting ways, but you’re not allowed to leave the ‘Spill, k?
Hi Bish
many thanks for your kind words.
lambre
A por tabaco pero a la cochimbamba lo que es definitivo, me temo.
I have to apologise for going public over my decision to stop RRing. Others have stopped with more dignity and a lot less kerfuffle but I have such an addictive personality and so little will power that I had to do it that way to MAKE MYSELF stop! Sadly, I don’t have time for both RR and the Spill and sadder still I don’t have the self control to just log on a couple of times at the weekend and leave it at that. I had decided to give it a rest and that this week’s topic didn’t interest me and there I was on Friday getting sucked back in…
I have been doing my taxes (what fun!) and have found scribbled dond-lists on the back of bank statements and the like. That is how far RR had been getting under my skin.
I have just had a look on RR and have, quite frankly, been overwhelmed by the kindness of the comments people have made. I think I will have to go on one last time just to say thank you.
Anyway, you’re all going to have to carry on putting up with me over here.
Oh, and lambre, you’re right about the remixes – but (get this) I have the originals only on cassette!
