You can play a hell of a lot of songs with only three chords on the guitar. I’ve even seen books that have simplified strum-along versions of songs that seem to just use C, G and D, with the occasional A thrown in.
In fact, as a guitarist you can just learn how to play power chords, which are just root and fifth dyads really, and you will be able to play most of the Ramones and Clash songbooks, plus a load of metal and hard rock stuff.
Get yourself a metal distortion pedal and crank it up and you will be ready to rock.
That was pretty impressive, and now everytime I hear one of those songs, I’ll be thinking about the chord structure. Still, I didn’t see the Safety Dance in there…
