The following is a step-by-step guide to the way I use the music player. There are probably much quicker and flasher ways of getting it to work but this works for me and if you’re having problems with the player, I hope this will help. Full details follow
Before we start we need to decide where we will be linking to. I use Dropbox, so I will explain how I do it from there. I imagine the basic mechanics are the same regardless of where you’re linking to, so where I say DB link, substitute your own hosting service link. The player only works with mp3 – so make sure the file is in this format before linking to it!
Let’s start in DB.
There are a number of folders in DB. We need to put the music we want to link to in the Public folder. Once it’s in there we right click on the file and choose the option COPY PUBLIC LINK.
To create a player:
I don’t use ANY of the editing buttons. In HTML I type ALL OF THE FOLLOWING in the body of the post.
STEP ONE:
Open the player:
Type:
If you want to add track and artist information we continue as follows (IGNORING STEP FOUR):
STEP FIVE
To add track names:
after pasting the final link, leave a space and then type:
|titles=
Then type the name of the first track. Then a comma, then the next track and so on to the end.
Bear in mind that the comma is essential to separate links, track names and artist names. If the track names or artist names have commas in them – LEAVE THEM OUT. They will only “confuse” the player and stop it from working properly.
STEP SIX
To add artist names, type:
|artists=
and follow the same procedure as for track names.
STEP SEVEN
To close the player type:
]
So for a three song playlist with titles and artists we should end up with the following code:
*opening square bracket*audio link one, link two, link three |titles= title one, title two, title three |artists=artist one, artist two, artist three *closing square bracket*
I hope that this helps.
Maki
maki – I tried this all morning – nothing – just the drop code coming up.
….then I typed it in ‘HTML’ mode not ‘visual mode’ then I think it has worked.
is this just my computer/browser/mangled mind or is it a slip?
I’ve just had a look at my Circulo Polar post in both visual and HTML (I don’t normally use HTML ’cause it frightens me – that’s how much of a Luddite I am!) and the code is exactly the same in both!
still don’t understand why it wont work for me in visual then.. weird… but that has been my problem.
any way.. cheers for the patient help, I’ve finally got some music on this blog.. yeah!
