Give us a light mester gremlinfc

On the theme of “lights” the gremlinfc has this week been down to one of the country’s most beautiful parts to sample a very old festival well worth a visit. Ze question is…where is it? What is it called and in which town is it held? It’s an annual ting…
PS – i’ll stick to what i can do in future , that Podbean ting is black magic. The 3rd of the battle-gremlins was the “Battle of the Beanfield”.

  1. If this had been earlier in the month I’d have suggested one of the West Country illuminated carnivals, which have a long tradition of lots of bright lights. But the last one on the circuit was (i) several weeks ago and (ii) in Weston-super-Mare, which certainly isn’t one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

  2. Many thanks Mr. Blimpy squire – i wish i could do the PodBean thaang but i am cursed with lack of IT skills so will stick to what i know…i won’t reveal where i was yet but Abahachi is heading in the right direction…

  3. It’s fair to say that the “City of Lights” festival in Truro is not very old per se (it’s in its 10th year) but the idea of “lantern festivals” and celebrations in this weird and wonderful part of the country which include “light” go back a long way (Lowender Peran / Tom Bawcock’s Eve etc), often mixed up with Celt-Pagan-type things and are very popular still. As for the Booker Prize…not quite sure where that fits in.

  4. Ten years? Hah! Somerset carnivals go back a couple of hundred, and have been illuminated for well over a century. Highly recommended, not just the big famous ones like Bridgwater but the little ones as well. Our local one passes right outside the front door, so we always invite a load of people round and crack open a barrel of beer (too early in the autumn for cider).
